<p>I am using <a href="ultraseedbox">ultra.cc</a> service, I reviewed their service <a href="/ultraseedbox">here</a>, (I am not affiliated with them in any way)
This service costs money, I went with the basic plan at 4.95€/mo</p>
<h1 id="what-can-my-setup-do">What can my setup do ?</h1>
<p>Its allows you to watch media without having to go through the pain of looking for the correct torrent file. It will find the wanted language, subtitles and quality all of that automatically. You can also add an upcoming movie / serie and it will be downloaded automatically when released !</p>
<p>If the current quality sucks it will be upgrade automatically whenever a better one is available</p>
<p>1 - If I want to watch something I search for the media and download it to my seedbox,</p>
<p>2 - I receive a notification when it's done downloading</p>
<p>3 - I can then watch the movie or tv show (usually under 10 minutes)</p>
<p>You should download all of your watchlist earlier and when you want to watch something it will be instant</p>
<p>It's a bit inconvenient but it's compensated with the huge choice of movies and series.</p>

<p><strong><u>Sonarr:</u></strong></p>
<p>Sonarr is a Tv show/ Anime collection manager for BitTorrent users. It downloads episodes of your favorite shows automatically and will grab (which means sending the .torrent file to transmission), sort and rename them.</p>
<p>We will use it</p>
<p><strong><u>Radarr :</u></strong></p>
<p>Radarr is a modified version of sonarr that works for movies</p>
<p><strong><u>Prowlarr:</u></strong></p>
<p>It manages indexers: basically thats where you add public / private trackers (The Pirate Bay is one of the most well known)</p>
<p><strong><u>Transmission:</u></strong></p>
<p>This software is pretty simple to understand, you give it a .torrent or a .magnet file and it will download the media to a specific destination.</p>
<p>Radarr and sonarr will find those torrent files for you automatically.</p>
<h1 id="how-to-setup-this-system-on-ultra-cc">How to setup this system on ultra.cc ?</h1>
<p>I went with the LANCER_V2 plan at 4.95€, find the one which suits your need</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>access the control panel and enter your credentials <em>(don't retry to login more than 5 times in a row or you will be forced to wait 30 minutes)</em></p>
</li>
<li>
<p>once you are logged in, click the <code>connect</code> button right here:

<p>It's now time to configure those apps !</p>
<p>Click the <code>Show info</code> button from Prowlarr in the app tab and then hit <code>connect</code> to login inside of the prowlarr app.</p>
<p>Here with prowlarr you manage your <code>indexers</code>:</p>
<h1 id="some-vocabulary">Some vocabulary:</h1>
<p>There are 3 types of indexers (aka trackers):</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>Public: anyone can use those and don't even need an account. You don't have to build a ratio (even if thats nice for others)
You can be seen by anyone downloading a file and if its copyrighted you might need to stop seeding the content.
A seedbox or a vpn will protect your anonymity</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Semi-private: anyone can use it but you must create an account first and you have to build a ratio</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Private: It's hard to get in one of those, you must be invited or pass some kind of interview. You must build a ratio</p>
</li>
</ul>
<h3 id="what-s-a-ratio">What's a ratio ?</h3>
<p>Ratio is a division between all of the data that you sent (your upload volume) and all of the data that you downloaded</p>
<p>So: <code>ratio = UP/DOWN</code></p>
<p>When you finshed downloading a torrent, the <code>seed</code> phase starts, you are <code>seeding</code> the file.
This means that if another user wants to download that file (a movie, a tv show or just a txt file), he will use your server
and the one of others to get download the file.
We speak of a p2p (pear to pear) network</p>
<p>So back to our indexers, click the add Indexer button

Click the torrent checkbox under the protocol tab and choose your language like en-US for english (fr-FR for french)</p>
<p>Then choose the <code>privacy</code> option you want, public, semi-private or private.</p>
<p>I went for a semi-private indexer because I want privacy and I didn't manage to get in
a private indexer yet</p>
<p>As you can see I only have one semi-private indexer called sharewood, it's a great french tracker<br />
Check this great <a href="https://wiki.servarr.com/en/prowlarr/quick-start-guide">prowlarr guide</a> or ask in my discord server if you need help setting up an indexer.</p>
<p>Once you added a provider, we will integrate radarr and sonarr with prowlarr
Under <code>Settings > Apps</code> click the <code>+</code> sign.</p>
<p>We will start by adding radarr, hit the <code>Radarr</code> button
Now copy the current website url inside of the <code>Prowlarr Server</code> input and remove everything after <code>prowlarr/</code>
It should look like that:</p>
<p>Keep this tab open and go back to the control pannel, now login to the radarr app (under <code>Show Info > Connect</code>)</p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>Copy the current website url when logged in to radarr, it looks something like that with ultra.cc (you can find it in the control panel when you click <code>show info</code> next to transmission): <code>https://userame.server.usbx.me/radarr/</code></p>

<p>Still in Radarr go to <code>Settings > General</code> and copy the API key:

still under <code>Setting > Apps</code>, click the <code>+</code> sign and click the <code>Sonarr</code></p>

<p>To <a href="https://docs.usbx.me/books/transmission/page/initial-setup">add transmission</a> to radarr and sonarr, connect to the app (radarr or sonarr)</p>
<ul>
<li>Under <code>Settings > Download Clients</code></li>
<li>click the <code>+</code> sign</li>
<li>select <code>Transmission</code></li>
<li>under <code>name</code> type whatever you want</li>
<li>Under <code>Host</code> copy the root url of the server, it looks something like <code>username.servername.usbx.me</code>, you can find it in the control panel

<li>Port: type <code>443</code>, it's the https (ssl) port</li>
<li>tick <code>Use SSL</code></li>
<li>Username: the username you use to connect to transmission (you can find it in the control panel when you click <code>show info</code> next to transmission)</li>
<li>Password: the password you use to connect to transmission (you can find it next to the username)</li>
<li>Click <code>Test</code> and if it's green, you can click <code>save</code>

<p>Thats where all of your media library will be organised.
You can specify any path but to keep things organised we will use here:</p>

<li><code>/home/username/media/Movies</code> to store movies (in Radarr)</li>
<li><code>/home/username/media/TV Shows</code> to store series (in Sonarr)</li>
</ul>
<p>In both apps:</p>
<ul>
<li>Head over to <code>Settings > Media Managment</code></li>
<li>Click <code>Add Root Folder</code></li>
<li>here browse to the specific path (depending if you are setting up radarr or sonarr)</li>

<h1 id="what-is-nginx">What is Nginx ?</h1>
<p>It's a free and open source software, it's really powerful but here we will only use it to display files on a simple web interface</p>
<p>The files we are using will be media such as movies or animes, that you need to download yourself (here we will use torrents)</p>
<p>I will also refer to nginx as <code>HTTP access</code> in this tutorial because it allows the user to access his file using http.</p>
<h3 id="you-must-have-a-server-like-a-raspberry-pi-a-nas-or-a-seedbox-and-a-media-collection-to-use-this-feature">You must have a server (like a raspberry pi, a NAS or a seedbox) and a media collection to use this feature !</h3>
<h1 id="why-did-i-create-that">Why did I create that ?</h1>
<p>I used to be a user of <a href="https://jellyfin.org/">jellyfin</a> because I didn't want to pay for a subscription and I didn't want to use proprietary software just to display files like plex.
It wasn't working really well and I sometimes wasn't able to play Movies and it semmed to use a lot of ressources</p>
<p>The solution ? Scrape the media files and their metadata using Cloudstream-3</p>
<p>The advantages of this provier over jellyfin are that it's lightweight and integrated with cloudstream</p>
<h4 id="to-setup-nginx-you-must-have-a-media-server">To setup nginx you must have a media server:</h4>
<ul>
<li>
<p>A 'managed' seedbox: is a service that you can rent and will take care of finding, downloading torrents and seeding them for you, check out mine <a href="/my-media-server/">here</a>, easiest method (that I use)</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>You can also self host the media server, I cover the install of nginx <a href="/unlisted/self-host-nginx">here</a> (harder)</p>
</li>
</ul>
<p>Here I'll cover the install on a managed seedbox using ultra.cc</p>

<p>Prowlarr is between the tracker and the media mangment apps (radarr and sonarr): it handles the requests to the trackers (that you add inside prowlarr)</p>
<p><strong>What are trackers ?</strong></p>
<p>They are basically websites where you create an account and they "list" content hosted by other users registered on the website (they don't host the content themself).</p>
<p>Sonarr and radarr will then ask prowlarr to search for something specific like a movie or an anime inside this list built by the tracker</p>
<p>Once the movie is found, the torrent file is sent to transmission.</p>
<p>Transmission is basically a torrent downloader, it will download the files given by radarr and sonarr</p>
<h1 id="installation-with-ultraseedbox">Installation with ultraseedbox</h1>
<p>Ultraseedbox (now called ultra.cc) is a service that allows you to download torrents with really fast download speed and then seed those torrent (which means sharing it with other users how want to download them 24/7) but it cost some money, you can check them out <a href="https://ultra.cc/">here</a> (I am not affiliated with them in any way, but their support and service is really great for me).</p>
<p>You can use any similar seedbox service that offers http access through nginx.</p>
<p>For my setup you have to install:</p>
<p><strong>required (for metadata):</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>
<p>Sonarr (for tv shows)</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Radarr (for movies)</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Nginx - http access (already installed by default on ultra.cc)</p>
</li>
</ul>
<h1 id="setting-up-radarr-sonarr">Setting up radarr / sonarr</h1>
<p>You must use a metadata downloader (that downloads .nfo files), I'll use radarr and sonarr since it's the easiest for me (it might be possible to download metadata using something else but I didn't try)</p>
<p>To install radarr and sonarr go into your control pannel, under installers search for sonarr and radarr</p>
<p>You now have to enable the download of metadata</p>
<p>To do so for Radarr go inside radarr to:</p>
<p><code> settings > metadata</code></p>
<p>you have to enable Kodi (XMBC) / Emby metadata</p>
<p>I use the following settings in radarr</p>

<p>you must untick "use Movie.nfo" as shown in the screenshot</p>
<p><strong>For Sonarr go to:</strong></p>
<p><code>settings > metadata</code></p>
<p>And enable those settings</p>

<p>If the metadata is not present, the movie / tv show will not be displayed by cloudstream</p>
<p>Now we are ready, if you want to add folders to the http access you can follow the documentation coming from <a href="https://docs.usbx.me/books/http-access/page/downloading-files-from-your-ultracc-slot-using-http-access">ultra.cc</a></p>
<h1 id="in-cloudstream">In cloudstream</h1>
<p>Go into the settings of Cloudstream-3 and click the <code>Nginx server url</code> button</p>
<p>Here you need to type the exact url of the http nginx server where you access your files, for exemple <code>https://myusername.myles.usbx.me/</code></p>
<p>The http access requires authentification, you have to go under <code>Nginx Credentials</code> and type your username and password.</p>
<p>Those credentials are written in the control pannel of ultra.cc under:</p>
<p><code>Access details > HTTP proxy access</code></p>
<p>As written in the description, you have to supply those credentials using a very specific format, let's say your username is <code>mycoolusername</code> and your password is <code>password1234</code> (Please use a password manager lol), then you have to type in the input: <code>mycoolusername:password1234</code></p>

<p>You now have to restart the app to apply the changes.</p>
<p>Nginx will now show up in the sources list on the home page</p>
<p>It might say that no url is supplied when starting the application, you can just hit the retry button and it should work fine</p>

CloudStream 3 does not host, upload or manage any videos, films or content. It simply crawls, aggregates and displayes links in a convenient, user-friendly interface.</p>
<p>It merely scrapes 3rd-party websites that are publicly accessible via any regular web browser.</p>
<p><strong>It is the responsibility of user to avoid any actions that might violate the laws governing his/her locality.</strong></p>
<h1 id="what-are-the-risks-in-practice">What are the risks in practice ?</h1>
<p>Basically ? none, the content is hosted by the "providers", and if you don't distribute the content yourself, you are pretty much safe</p>
<p>A lot of misleading articles online try to scare people into buying a vpn subscription when the authors are earning a big commission (sometimes 100% of the vpn subscription).<br />
VPN are useful for certain things but aren't a magical tool and most people don't need those</p>

<p>You can stream media from various sources (developed mainly by the community) by installing <em>extensions</em>, you can install them from here:</p>

<p>When you search for a media, cloudstream will search every provider installed to see if it has that media or not.</p>
<p>You can change the list of used providers with the settings button in the search page</p>
<p>You can also enable foreign languages providers (such as french) under:</p>

<p>and tick the ones you want there</p>
<h2 id="how-does-it-work">How does it work ?</h2>
<p>Basicaly this app send requests to different websites (also called sources or providers) to find movies, series and animes and display them nicely in the app</p>
<h2 id="100-free-and-no-ads">100% free and no ads!</h2>
<p>Cloudstream-3 (also refered to as cs-3) is open-source, that means that anyone can look at the code, their isn't any invasive data collection and anyone can create their own modiifed version (I did my own version !)</p>
<p>This app doesn't contain any ads and is completly free to download, as a result this app doesn't make any money from someone using the app.</p>

<p>The user interface is truly outstanding and is in my opinion better than some official streaming plateforms (I am looking at you amazon prime video)</p>

<h1 id="the-issues">The issues:</h1>
<h2 id="even-if-this-app-is-close-to-perfection-it-isn-t-perfect-yet">Even if this app is close to perfection, it isn't perfect (yet)</h2>
<p>Indeed, the content is scrapped from various streaming websites,
the main issue with this approach is that those websites can go down, change their url or even break.</p>
<p>This raises errors such as:</p>
<ul>
<li>"No link found" (meaning that the direct link can't be loaded)</li>
</ul>
<p><em>Edit: This issue has been partially fixed, broken providers are disabled by the creators of cloudstream without having to update the app</em></p>

<p>Not being able to stream to Google Cast (file format issue)</p>
</li>
<li>
<p>Each provider is displayed independently, if you want to watch something you may have to check different sources</p>

<p>Downloading doesn't work well: <em>This issue is actively worked on</em></p>

<h1 id="avabality">Avabality:</h1>
<p>You can download this app on android, android TV and FireTV Stick
it is unfortunately not avalaible on ios or on desktop</p>
<h1 id="installation">Installation:</h1>
<p>First of all, you have to choose between two types of apps, the pre-release and the release, each of them have their pros and cons,
you can switch at any time but you will lose your download history and settings.</p>
<p>let's compare those two options:</p>
<h2 id="pre-release-the-beta-version">pre-release (the beta version)</h2>
<ul>
<li>You have all of the latest features for the app</li>
<li>some stuff in the app might break (like the player or navigation)</li>
<li>Update are pushed at every small update (commit), so you have to install the app more often (it can be annoying for slow connections)</li>
</ul>
<h2 id="release">Release</h2>
<ul>
<li>You don't have the lastest fixes and features</li>
<li>You have stability, the app almost never break in release</li>
<li>No need to update as often as in pre-release</li>
</ul>
<h1 id="installing-the-apk">Installing the apk</h1>
<p>once you chose which variant of the app you want to use, head over to <a href="https://github.com/LagradOst/CloudStream-3/releases">the release page</a></p>
<p>you now have to download the .apk file on this page (according to the choice you made earlier)</p>
<p>apk files are executable files that contains the application code, it is the only way to download this app since it's not on the play store</p>
<p>Once you downloaded the apk, open the file</p>
<p>A popup will tell you that the installation from unkown sources is disabled, this is normal behaviour.</p>

<p>Click the "settings" button of that popup and then click "allow this source"</p>

<p>Now you need to install extensions if you want to watch content, go to that website:</p>

<p>Choose the provider repository that you want to install (English, Multilingual, or anything from the list)</p>
